Espresso's jet black buds open into velvety, burgundy-red flowers that are adorned with glittering white stamens.

Gladioli (the plural of Gladiolus) are excellent as cut flowers, known for their longevity in vases, allowing you to enjoy their beauty indoors, as well as in the garden.  Gladioli produce tall spikes of large blossoms, in a rainbow of colours. They can be planted in borders, flower beds, pots, or as a backdrop for other plants, creating a visually appealing focal point. The vibrant flowers attract bees, butterflies, and other pollinators, supporting local ecosystems and promoting healthy plant growth.  Gladioli are relatively easy to grow and care for, making them a great choice for both beginner and experienced gardener.

Glads grow from corms (bulb-like structures) that are not winter hardy in Canada. They must be dug in September and stored until planting time the following May, or replaced annually. Dig gladiolus corms once the foliage has been killed by frost, typically in October. When you dig the corms, you’ll notice a number of miniature corms attached to the main one. These are called cormels. They should bloom in two or three years if you save them and replant them each spring. Save the largest ones, at least half inch in diameter.
